Palm oil is a natural plant product that is produced from the fruit of the oil palm, or Elaeis Guineensis tree. The exact amount of palm oil in Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus is proprietary. However, it is a miniscule amount per pearl; the amount is less than the weight of an apple seed.
Palm oil in Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus actually “seals” the probiotic bacteria in the capsule, which protects them from air. Probiotic bacteria are anaerobic, meaning they do not require oxygen to live. In fact, the presence of oxygen can actually injure or kill probiotic bacteria. In addition, the palm oil's ability to seal the bacteria in the capsule eliminates the need for the nutritional supplement to be refrigerated – though they can be kept in the refrigerator if desired.
The outer coating components are part of the True Delivery™ Technology system, which protects the probiotic bacteria from the harsh stomach acid so that they can be released into the intestines. The coating ingredients, pectin and gelatin, are listed on the label.
The two most clinically studied forms of probiotics (L. acidophilus and B. longum) are the strains that were selected for inclusion in Acidophilus Pearls. Both have demonstrated benefits for digestive health, with no significant adverse effects.
Additionally, both strains are very hardy and stable. This is very important. With Acidophilus Pearls, unlike many other products on the market, we guarantee that the probiotics remain alive and viable throughout the shelf-life of the product - not just at the time of manufacture. The patented delivery system of the pearl ensures that the bacteria survive transit through the stomach to colonize in the intestines. We do not feel that there is a need to include other bacterial strains - our focus with this product is to deliver the most beneficial probiotics, in the amount we guarantee on the label, to the place in the body where they are needed.
Our company offers many different probiotics in different amounts to suit different needs. Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus offers 1 billion cfu, the general daily recommendation, in a tiny pearl-shaped capsule. This amount confers health benefits because the probiotics are protected from heat, moisture, and stomach acid so they can arrive intact in the intestines.
Acidophilus Pearls™ provides Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum, two probiotic bacteria with the greatest amount of research and clinical support. In fact, over 75 years of published research has shown that beneficial bacteria in general, (and Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum in particular) are the most effective in maintaining a healthy balance of intestinal flora every day.*
The gelatin in Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus is derived from fish (tilapia).
Recent research on probiotics has suggested that many people can take daily dosages in amounts far in excess of the 1 billion CFU per day delivered by Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus. While the optimal daily dose is unknown and may vary from person to person, studies have looked at doses as high as 100-200 billion cfu/day. It is always a good idea to confer with your health care professional when deciding what daily dose of probiotics may be optimal for you.
Take them with meals, between meals, or whenever it is easiest for you to remember.
Integrative Therapeutics is committed to stewardship and sustainability in the service of positive social and environmental outcomes. The fact that Enzymatic Therapy does not purchase wild harvest and strives to cultivate sustainable vendor relationships are two examples of this commitment. We have and continue to implement procedures company-wide to improve our efficiency and in turn, reduce our carbon footprint. Palm oil is an important ingredient in Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus and plays an crucial role in the True Delivery™ Technology. Put in perspective, the amount of palm oil found in Probiotic Pearls® Acidophilus is very small - far less than the amount found in one commercially manufactured cookie. The level is insignificant and when compared to other uses of palm oil, doesn’t have a substantial impact on the palm oil supply and subsequently on deforestation.
The soybean oil is an excipient, an inert substance that is added to a tablet, capsule, or liquid in order to make it easier to administer, absorb or manufacture. Soybean oil is often added to softgel formulations to suspend the key ingredients, making sure they are evenly dispersed. It can be used in coatings, often in the form of soy lecithin, to improve the appearance and uniformity of the tablet. Our soybean oil is not hydrogenated.
Digestive balance is key to overall health and wellbeing. That said, there are many things that can impact the balance of good bacteria in your intestinal tract, including stress, travel, diet and age, just to name a few. That’s why it’s important to replenish your digestive system on a regular basis through a healthy diet, exercise and a probiotic supplement, like one of our unique Probiotic Pearls™ formulas.
Probiotics are transient ‘guests’ within our digestive tract. Therefore it’s a great idea to make probiotics a part of your daily routine to help maintain digestive balance and support immune health.* So keep inviting them back – they’re great guests!
By definition, probiotics are live microorganisms. As such, moisture, as well as the acidic environment of the stomach, can be detrimental to probiotics. That’s why Probiotic Pearls™ are encapsulated in a triple-layered softgel that helps protect the active cultures from stomach acid. The Pearls triple-layer technology offers superior protection versus standard capsules to better help deliver probiotics to the intestine.
The unique triple layer softgel helps protect the microflora from stomach acid and releases them in the intestine. The probiotics in our Probiotic Pearls™ supplements survive these harsh conditions and deliver the healthy flora where you need it. That’s a pretty amazing feat—after all, your stomach is roughly a million times more acidic than water!
CFU is an acronym used on the labels of most probiotic containing products. It refers to "colony forming unit" and is a measurement used by microbiologists to denote the amount of active cultures, or good bacteria, found in a probiotic product.
