The ingredient

English ivy is a high-climbing evergreen vine that can reach 80 to 90 feet. It is primarily grown in nurseries and greenhouses, and cultivated for ornamental, wellness, and groundcover purposes. Also known to help filter indoor air pollutants, including formaldehyde, benzene, and mold spores, it was among the dozen plants researched in The NASA Clean Air Study!

The ivy has two types of leaves: juvenile, which are lobed and climbing, and adult leaves, which are oval and found on flowering stems. Only mature plants produce flowers and berries. The leaves are typically harvested by hand to avoid damaging the plant during the growing season, when they are mature but still vibrant. Ivy’s invasiveness has led to regulatory restrictions in states like Oregon, where propagation and sale are banned.
