Identification

High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) testing provides a detailed chemical fingerprint of the ingredient for comparison against certified botanical reference standards. HPTLC testing is among the best, most reliable methods for authenticating raw materials.

The ingredient

Fenugreek has been used for centuries for a variety of purposes, including to support wellness. For example, fenugreek seeds are used as a spice in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, especially in curries and sauces; the seeds have a sweet flavor reminiscent of maple syrup.

We source our fenugreek seed from India, though the clover-like plant is also found in the Mediterranean and southern Europe. The seed is sown in winter and harvested from March to April, either by hand or machine. After harvesting, the plants are set out to dry, and the seed pods are opened, separated, and cleaned.

Cinnamon is a delicious addition to your cooking and baking, but the plant itself has a variety of uses outside of the kitchen and is grown around the world. Indonesia is one of the world’s top cinnamon producers and the largest global exporter.

Most of our cinnamon is grown in Indonesia, where the tropical climate, high rainfall, and volcanic soil provide ideal conditions for cinnamon trees to thrive. Cinnamon bark is harvested by stripping the inner bark of mature trees, typically after 6 to 10 years of growth. The bark is sun-dried and then rolled into quills or ground into powder for export. Farmers often use intercropping methods, growing cinnamon alongside other crops like coffee or cloves.

Gymnema leaf is cultivated or wildcrafted in tropical to subtropical climates with well-drained sandy or medium black soils. The plant has been used for ages in India, with its roots deeply embedded in Ayurvedic tradition. It is known locally as "gurmar,” which means “sugar destroyer.”

Many gymnema growers use manual weeding, crop rotation, and organic manure to maintain soil fertility and plant health. Most farms are small, family-run operations with knowledge passed down through generations. The crops are harvested by hand twice a year. During the off-season, the herb farmers often grow leafy greens to diversify income and maintain soil health through rotation and cover cropping.
