Halloween is just around the corner, and with it comes countless bags of Halloween candy flooding the grocery store aisles. Everyone deserves to have their sugary Halloween goodies, but why not try some healthy Halloween treats that are spooky, delicious, and better for you than a candy bar? These hauntingly yummy treats will be loved by you and the little ones.

Witch Fingers

Witch fingers are always a fun snack to have during the Halloween season, but a lot of the variations are made with cookies and candy. If you’re looking for a healthy version of witch fingers that still maintain the spirit of spooky season, look no further.

What you’ll need:

  • Celery stalks
  • Peanut butter or almond butter
  • Almonds
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam (or red food dye for less sugar)

How to assemble:

  1. Clean and cut the celery stalks in half.
  2. Spread the peanut or almond butter onto the celery halves.
  3. Place a small amount of jam or red food dye at the ends of the celery halves.
  4. Place an almond (aka the witch nail) over the jam or food dye, and voilà!

Next step: perfect your spells! Enjoy your witchy fingers and dive into the Halloween spirit.

Clementine Jack O’ Lanterns

No pumpkin? No problem! There are a couple ways to use clementines to make a fun, spooky and edible version of a jack o’ lantern. (Less gross pumpkin guts too.)

What you’ll need:

  • Clementines
  • Celery stalk
  • Parsley or cilantro
  • Sharpie

How to assemble:

  1. Cut the celery stalk into thin, ½ inch long pieces.
  2. Gather small bushels of the parsley or cilantro.
  3. Cut a small hole or slit into the top of the clementine.
  4. Stick a celery piece and herb into the top of the clementine to resemble a pumpkin.
  5. Either cut a spooky face into the clementine peel or draw one on just like a jack o’ lantern!

Don’t be afraid to get creative with carving or drawing. Make as many as you’d like, and easily peel and serve them if anyone is feeling snack-ish.

Banana Ghosts

Boo! These banana ghosts are more adorable than frightening. What makes them even better is how simple they are to create.

What you’ll need

  • Bananas
  • Mini and regular sized chocolate chips
  • Popsicle sticks (optional)

How to assemble

  1. Peel the banana and cut part of the bottom off so it more closely resembles a sheet ghost.
  2. Insert two mini chocolate chips into the banana for the ghost eyes.
  3. Insert one regular sized chocolate chip for the ghost mouth.
  4. (Optional) Stick a popsicle stick in the bottom of the ghost banana for even easier eating!

If you’re not into chocolate chips, feel free to use raisins or blueberries as a less sugary substitute.

Apple Monster Teeth

This recipe will have you smiling right along with these little apple monster mouths.

What you’ll need:

  • Apples (any variety)
  • Peanut butter or any nut butter
  • Mini marshmallows or slivered almonds for a scary look
  • Candy eyes (optional)

How to assemble:

  1. Cut the apples into slices.
  2. Spread a decent glob of nut butter onto one side of an apple slice.
  3. Do the same with another apple slice.
  4. Press the apple slices together, with the nut butter sides facing each other.
  5. Stick the mini marshmallows or slivered almonds into the nut butter in the middle so that it resembles a mouth with teeth.
  6. For extra fun, you could add some candy eyes to the top apple slice, sticking them on with some peanut butter.

There you go! Now you have a bunch of little monster mouths. Careful, they might bite.

Grape Eyeballs

Keep your eyes peeled! These grape eyeballs will have you feeling like something’s watching you…

What you’ll need:

  • Grapes (green or red)
  • White icing
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Strawberry jam (optional)
  • Toothpick (optional)

How to assemble:

  • Wash your grapes
  • Squeeze a small amount of icing on the grape to make the white of the eyeball.
  • Push a mini chocolate chip into the icing for the pupil.
  • For added spooky vibes, you can use a toothpick and strawberry jam to create a “bloodshot” look to the eyeballs.

Again, feel free to substitute raisins or something pupil-like to lower the sugar content in your grape eyeballs. Enjoy!
